Art Times, September 2024 : Many researches are being done internationally to reduce the impact of plastic waste, which has become a major problem worldwide. Especially in India, the government and private organizations are also doing their best to solve this problem. In order to benefit the environment and society, Sharp Ventures has launched a massive project to recycle 32,000 tons of plastic waste annually and reduce carbon emissions by around 15,000 tons. Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana state, and Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, were chosen for this project.
Sharp Ventures, one of Asia’s leading providers of comprehensive recycling solutions, officially announced the scheme recently. Representatives of the company said that they will supply the best quality reusable plastic materials and undertake projects that will contribute to environmental positive and social development through them. Sharp Ventures, Re Sustainability Limited and Marico Innovation Foundation have entered into a partnership agreement for this project. Marico Innovation Foundation, a subsidiary of Marico Limited, recognizes and supports the implementation of long-term socially and environmentally positive innovations in India. The foundation has launched a mission to tackle plastic waste in 2022 under the slogan “Innovation in Plastics: The Potential and Possibilities”.
Why Hyderabad and Raipur?
According to Sharp Ventures, there are special reasons for choosing Hyderabad and Raipur cities to implement this scheme. “We chose these two cities strategically due to unique demographics and waste management challenges. The metropolitan city of Hyderabad generates the huge amount of plastic waste every year. It is an ideal location for the use of advanced waste management technologies to implement large-scale recycling processes. Raipur, representing the urban centers, faces different problems for waste management,” the organization said in a statement. Meanwhile, the project aims to provide direct livelihood to more than 370 people and 2,000 people indirectly in the first phase along with waste management. In that too women will be given high priority. Moreover, it aims to promote active participation and responsibility at the field level by involving local communities in effective waste segregation and recycling processes.
Speaking about the project, Harsh Mariwala, Founder and Chairman, Marico Limited, said that it is a massive scheme to strengthen the economy, benefiting both the environment and the society. We aim to create sustainable waste management practices by increasing the supply of high quality recycled materials.
Masood Mallick, MD, CEO, Re Sustainability Limited said, “Our aim is to overcome the challenges of plastic waste by using cutting-edge technology to prevent recyclables from ending up in landfills. We are ready to efficiently implement the resource conservation, carbon reduction potential, and pollution prevention effects associated with every kilogram of waste we produce. Managing waste, turning it into valuable resources through recycling, and creating innovations can pave the way for a cleaner, more sustainable environment and a better future for generations to come.”
